First Sergeant Elfego Gomez, Jr. was the 1st SGT for Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry during 70-71. Unlike most 1st SGTs, Elfego spent most of his time in the field with his men rather than performing the normal duties of a 1st SGT in the rear area at LZ Bronco.
