Here are some pictures previously owned by LTC John B. Luke, who was the Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry during late 1970 and early 1971.  These pictures are provided as a courtesy of Michael Adams who purchased the pictures as a collector several years ago.

This appears to be the loading gate at the airport in Chu Lai.

This appears to be part of the Change-of-Command ceremony when LTC Luke took over the battalion from a previous commander who was relieved.  This may have been about October 1970.

This is LTC Luke standing among a cache of weapons that was captured in the spring of 1971.  This is the roof of the TOC.

This is the communications (commo) center inside the TOC (Tactical Operations Center) on FSB Hill 4-11.  LTC Luke lived in this bunker not far from where this picture was taken.

This memorial at the entrance of the TOC was dedicated to SGT Larry Techmeir who lost his life during a sapper attack on FSB Hill 4-11 during the early morning hours of July 14, 1969John B. Luke was born on November 5, 1935 and died on September 4, 1999 in Colorado Springs, CO.  His Social Security Number is 522-38-8955.  He retired from the US Army as a LTC.  He was buried on September 10, 1999 in plot “7 0 618” at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
