Robert Joel Hartman was the Platoon SGT for 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company.\u00a0\u00a0He served in Vietnam between April 1969 and April 1970.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00a0Robert thinks this picture was taken from a hilltop near LZ Snoopy and overlooking Highway 1. The 2nd Platoon spent the mornings clearing the “redball”, the afternoons swimming in the South China Sea (with security) and the evenings setting up ambushes.<\/p>

From left to right, Joe Valdez, an Unknown, David Whaley, and Dinkle at the NCO club during a standown at Chu Lai. Everybody was wearing one of Robert’s shirts so they could get in the picture. Robert thinks his name tag was on all the shirts.<\/p>

Never trust your “pals” when you’re in the bag during a standown. All Robert can remember clearly about standown was there was only one (thank God), and they were “locked down” in a compound at Chu Lai for about a week with all the beer they could drink. The MP’s guarded the entrance, and they had to sign in and out to get to the main base at Chu Lai. Real segregation for the “field rats”!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
